Newsletter #125

It’s no secret that you can reach just about anyone with Facebook.
Facebook marketing is very popular among internet marketers because you can laser target your ads based on the wealth of data that Facebook has about its users – age, location, interests, career and the list goes on.
Most Facebook ads are designed to show people products that they might be interested in buying (or consuming for free).
Why not also jobs that they can apply for?
That’s exactly what Facebook is about to roll out. As Josh Constine explains in his report for TechCrunch, this is an area where LinkedIn has fallen short.
For a start, LinkedIn is mostly used by white collar and highly skilled workers, but not so much in blue collar or lower skilled markets. Also, people tend not to go on LinkedIn unless they’re actively seeking out a new job.
Facebook hopes to enable employers and recruiters to reach workers who don’t have LinkedIn, and to show job opportunities to workers who might be interested but aren’t actively seeking them out.
Soon, you’ll be seeing ads on Facebook for jobs you might be interested in. You will also be able to run these ads yourself if you want to take on staff.
First of all, you’ll need to learn how to use Facebook and other major platforms to distribute your offer to people who might be interested.
Step 9 of the The Online Economy is where we give you all the tools you need to do that.

Quotation of the Day
“That’s where LinkedIn has fallen short. It’s become a destination for purposeful job seekers looking for medium- and high-skilled roles. But for people seeking part-time or hourly jobs, LinkedIn’s focus on your resume and education might have made them hesitant to sign up, and it’s not designed for applying to lots of jobs en masse.”
– Josh Constine
