Verizon agreed to acquire Yahoo, an internet search engine that is a shadow of its former self, in 2016 for $4.8 billion.

Recently, some changes were announced that will happen if this acquisition follows through.

The current CEO of Yahoo, Marissa Mayer and the company’s co-founder, David Filo, have said they will resign from the board.

Also, the company will be renamed Altaba.

Wondering where such a name comes from? It’s a product of Alibaba, a company that Yahoo owns a large stake in, and alternative.

The article, by Jon Swartz and Elizabeth Weise, also remarks that Yahoo has struggled to sell digital advertising compared to its competitors Google and Facebook.

Don’t let that fool you. While the big businesses with deep pockets like to go to the bigger sources of traffic, that doesn’t mean small business people like yourself can’t get all the traffic you need from sources the size of Yahoo.

Here’s a tip. Often the less popular websites such as Yahoo and Bing sell cheaper traffic than the likes of Google.

Here are more predictions for the future of internet marketing.

Infusionsoft CEO Clate Mask wrote this article for Inc magazine. His predictions about email marketing include that it will still be around, but sending the same identical messages to thousands of customers will be dead. Instead, the future is in sending more personalized and tailored messages using automation software.
